A few months ago I created a giant article on Camtasia vs filmora pro. Later on, I also found that people are searching for a caparison of filmora9 and Camtasia. So I created this article

So in this article i will compare camtasia vs filmora9 in the terms of

  • Screen Recording
  • Video Editing Features
  • Pricing
  • Speed Which is Faster
  • Which is Really Best For you

Let’s do this.

Screen Recording

First I want to see which is better in the screen recording.

If you need advanced control over screen recording only with some basic editing then Camtasia is for you.

Moreover, Users have the facility of customizing mouse pointer and click. From making it bigger to applying effects.

Effects can be applied on the pointer, left-click and right-click. The following screenshot shows pointer effects.

These effects can be customised

The screenshot is for just example, Camtasia has more mouse controls as well.

As I mentioned effects are available for both left and right-click.

These effects can be applied while editing. Users can apply these effects for a specific portion rather than applying on the whole video.

Camtasia also allows you to record both the desktop screen and web camera simultaneously.

The Good thing it created separates a layer of web camera recording and screen recording.

camtasia screen recording

This is great for editing. Because you can change camera position, size, or hide for specific timing.

Filmora9 also allows you to record screen and camera. Similar to Camtasia, it has also pre-made mouse effects.

Filmora recording opions

As you can see in the screenshot it has certain mouse effects and it can record the camera stream simultaneously too.

Once the recording is done in filmora9 you have a video similar to other videos. You can’t apply mouse effects, change camera position, etc. You can edit like other videos.

You can also change camera position while recording. But can’t after it’s done

Definitely in the screen recording Camtasia is the winner. Because you can customize a lot of things after recording. For example mouse effects, camera position, and size. Which filmora9 doesn’t allow.

Which Is Best in video Editing?

Next, I want to see which is best for video editing. Although both have different user interfaces But still both are easy to use editors.

Camtasia has all basic editing features that you need. It has following editing features.

  • Trimming, Splitting, cut, delete
  • Basic control over adding text, transitions, Audio Editing
  • Speed Control, voice narration
  • Keyframing It also known as animation
  • Zoom, crop
  • Few options in color control (Brightness, Contrast, Saturation)
  • Blur video

I know, I didn’t cover all features. You know it’s not possible to write about every single property. I tried to cover features that are widely used by users.

Filmora9 pretty much every feature that Camtasia has except keyframing.

Keyframing is basically used to move objects position in the video. It has some pre-made effects and motion tab. But you can’t customize them.

Another thing that I noticed is filmora9 provides advanced customization of every property.

For example, you can apply text gradient color and a lot of other things. Its pre-made animations are also good. Which makes text appealing.

text controls in filmora9

Another example that I can give you color tuning. Filmora9 provides advanced control over colors. Camtasia allows only saturation, brightness, and contrast.

Here is the screenshot of filmora9 color controls.

Another thing that I like about filmora is you can split the clip using a progress bar. That simple property is great for productivity.

Filmora9 definitely is the winner in the video editing. Except you need keyframing property. If I haven’t covered a specific feature probably it is available in both editors.

Which will Run Smoothly on your computer?

Speed is of video editors is one of the important and underrated features.

On paper camtasia is faster. Here are the it’s system requirements.

OSWindow 7 or higher (64 Bit only)macOS 10.13 High Sierra
ProcessorDual Core Minimum 2.0 GHz clock SpeedIntel Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 or AMD equivalent.
RAM4 GB minimum (8 GB Required for HD or 4k Videos)4 GB minimum (8 GB Recommended)
Hard Disk Space10 GB (SSD is recommended for 4k Videos)
Graphic CardIntel HD Graphics 5000 or later
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 700 or later
AMD Radeon R5 240 or later
2 GB vRAM (4GB required for HD and 4K videos)
Intel HD Graphics 5000 or later
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 700 or later
AMD Radeon R5 240 or later
2 GB vRAM (4GB required for HD and 4K videos)

But in reality, speed isn’t a problem. If your computer has 8 GB RAM and i3 or i5 processor. Then both can run smoothly.

Wondershare does not minimum system requirements. But it recommends having 8 GB RAM along with the i5 processor.

I personally use it on the 8 GB Ram along with i3 Processor. Performance is good until I don’t want to edit 4k videos.

People having low system configuration go with camtasia.

Another thing that you can do is test the free version of both software on your system.

Pricing is something that can make or break a business. A lot of you are already familiar with the pricing.

In case you aren’t don’t worry Here is the caparison table .

Pricing$289 one time fees and $57 every year for updates and support$69/lifetime $44 annually.

SupportOver Phone or Live chatBy Email or Support Ticked
Additional ProductsSnagit (Screenshot and photo editor) $25Filmstocks: Library of Additional text templates, transitions, effects etc.

Do you need Filmstocks with filmora9?

In most cases, you don’t. Because filmora9 inbuild text templates, effects, transitions are enough.

It’s pricing is complicated. Either $104 yearly including filmora9 license or $9/month if you purchase later on.

Like a said earlier most of you don’t need it. Because of filmora9 has 210 text templates, over hundreds of transitions, effects, and elements that can be customized.

For any reason if you think this isn’t enough then go with filmstocks.

Filmora9 vs Camtasia: Which is Best in 2020?

The answer of this question is depends upon your needs.

Camtasia can good choice if you need advance screen recording features or your computer is slow

On the other hand side, filmora9 is a great video editor with inbuild screen recording property.

Filmora9 is good for record screen. But definitely, it isn’t a great choice when you want to record both the camera and screen simultaneously.

Another advantage of Filmora9 in the price. It is so cheaper than Camtasia.

I barely record the screen. But I more do editing So filmora9 is definitely better choice for me.

If you are still confused then try testing free version of both software. Sooner you will reach to a decision.
